What This Grant Funds

NEH is conducting a one time limited competition for supplements in the Fellowship Programs at Independent Research Institutions program with a simplified and review process.

You will submit your application components via eGMS Reach rather than Grants.gov Workspace. You must submit the following:

·       a narrative explaining how you will continue the work approved in your current award. You must maintain the same number of fellowship months per year as your current award, and you may not change your approved review process for fellowship applicants (recommended length of two or three pages)

·       a work plan for the proposed extension’s period of performance

·       a project budget using the Research and Related Budget form (download and complete in Adobe)

·       a corresponding budget justification (do not attach it to the R&R)

·       a copy of your federally negotiated indirect cost rate agreement, if you are requesting indirect costs in excess of the 10% de minimis

NEH will review these applications based on eligibility, completeness, and responsiveness and the activities and budget will undergo a technical review. Staff will then make funding recommendations to the Chair for a final determination.

If selected, NEH will add supplemental funding to your existing award and your existing period of performance will be extended. You must expend all funds within the period of performance. Supplemental funds will be subject to NEH’s General Terms and Conditions for Awards to Organizations (For grants and cooperative agreements issued January 1, 2022, or later). You must submit a Federal Financial Report (SF-425) and Fellowship Selection Report annually, as well as a final financial and performance reports within 120 days after the period of performance ends, consistent with the requirements of your current award.

If you are selected for a supplement, you may not apply at the August 10, 2022 FPIRI deadline. If you choose not to request a supplement, or are not selected, you may apply with a new application by August 10, 2022, including the submission of a full proposal via Grants.gov, peer review, and a site visit. NEH intends to make final funding decisions for this limited competition by May 31, 2022.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible for this limited competition, you must meet the following criteria: 1.) You must be a current FPIRI recipient. 2.) You must be preparing to recruit and select the final cohort of fellows under your current award. 3.) Your current award was for 20 or more fellowships months per year. 4.)
