What This Grant Funds

The Grid Engineering for Accelerated Renewable Energy Deployment (GEARED). I. The purposes of this Amendment are to: a. Extend the deadline for questions from 4/16/2013 to 4/19/2013; and b. Extend the submission deadline for Full Applications from 4/19/2013 5:00 pm EST to 4/24/2013 5:00 pm EST. The Grid Engineering for Accelerated Renewable Energy Deployment (GEARED) Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) that is being issued by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking applications that help to support the increased power system research, development, and analytical capacity while simultaneously growing the expertise and preparedness of current and incoming electric utility sector professionals for high penetrations of solar and other distributed energy technologies. In order to achieve this joint capability and human capacity development, Grid Engineering for Accelerated Renewable Energy Deployment (GEARED) will support two activities: training consortia that focus on quickly bringing their findings into training and educational initiatives; and a national coordination network that will link these consortia to one another and other relevant power system R&D and training activities.
