What This Grant Funds

Through CSP State Entity grants, the Department awards grants on a competitive basis to State entities that, in turn, award subgrants to eligible applicants for the purpose of opening new charter schools and replicating and expanding high-quality charter schools. This program provides financial assistance to State entities to support charter schools that serve elementary and secondary school students in States with a State statute specifically authorizing the establishment of charter schools. Charter schools receiving funds under this program may also serve students in early childhood education programs or post secondary students.

State entities with a State statute specifically authorizing the establishment of charter schools are eligible to apply. "State entity" means--a) A State educational agency; b) A State charter school board; c) A Governor of a State; or d) A charter school support organization.
