What This Grant Funds

The HCA is formed by sixteen Federal and State agencies, and nonprofit non-governmental organizations that work to promote conservation of native species and habitats, including federally listed species and critical habitats. This HCA effort will support the Service¿s efforts to promote knowledge and understanding of critical conservation issues in Hawaii and conserve, enhance and protect endangered species and native fish, wildlife, and plants species and their habitats. The goals of HCA are to ensure that Hawai`i's leaders understand the conservation issues of statewide significance; to encourage them to focus their resources on solving the highest priority problems; to support restoration of rare and endangered species; to increase support for high priority management-oriented conservation research; to strengthen the skills of conservation professionals; and to increase public awareness and involvement in conserving and managing Hawai`i's ecosystems. The funds provided by the Pacific Islands Fish & Wildlife Office and the other members of HCA are used to support the actions needed to attain these goals.
