What This Grant Funds

The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research and technical assistance in the implementation of the U.S. National Vegetation Classification Standard (USNVC). The Standard is a dynamic content standard - it creates a process for efficiently developing, adopting and improving the USNVC content over time. To achieve this dynamic process six broad objectives must be accomplished: 1) maintenance and dissemination of the dynamic content, 2) maintenance and dissemination of supporting data (plots, taxonomy), 3) managing the submission, peer review and publication of changes to the NVC content, 4) facilitating the direct use and crosswalking of the NVC, 5) providing outreach and training, and 6) encouraging inter-agency and international collaboration in development of vegetation classifications.
