Cooperative Agreement for a CESU-affiliated Partner with the Gulf Coast Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit

The Wetland and Aquatic Research Center of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a funding opportunity to one CESU Partner of the Gulf Coast Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit (CESU) Program to fund research in tidal salt marshes in coastal Louisiana. The goal of the project is to promote continued cooperation between the USGS and a Gulf Coast CESU Partner in support of research investigating carbon sequestration and increased coastal resilience of marshes in Louisiana. The research investigates the effectiveness of wetland restoration techniques for marsh sustainability and carbon sequestration. Restoration helps to sustain the wetlands of the Mississippi River Delta Plain and also contributes to greenhouse gas reductions. To effectively mitigate climate change, it is critical to increase the understanding of land management scenarios that enhance carbon sequestration in coastal wetlands. This research will play a critical role in the State of Louisiana’s climate adaptation strategy.
