What This Grant Funds

U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) Program is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU Partner for research on water budget monitoring technology. In-situ based evapotranspiration (ET) measurements are needed for developing water budgets, calibrating hydrologic models, and validating satellite-based ET estimates. However, large scale in-situ measurements of ET are expensive and laborious due to sensor and data processing requirements of the traditional eddy covariance approach. This opportunity will support the evaluation of a promising new sensor technology and advance the overall understanding of how similar technologies could fill the current monitoring gaps.
