GRANTQUICK SUMMARYPlain-English Overview

DoD Prostate Cancer Research Program Idea Development Award funds 8 grants for innovative prostate cancer research. DoD funds prostate cancer because of high rates in military/veteran populations.

Who Should Apply

Prostate cancer researchers with innovative proposals and preliminary data.

Who Should NOT Apply

Researchers without prostate cancer focus, early-stage without data (use Concept Award).

Key Requirements (Plain English)

  • Must focus on prostate cancer
  • 8 awards
  • Must have preliminary data
  • Unrestricted eligibility

💡 GrantQuick Tip

8 awards in a large research field. Differentiate from NIH/NCI-funded work. DoD values health disparities (Black men have 2x mortality), early detection in young men, and environmental risk factors relevant to military service.

Competitiveness: Moderate-high — 8 awards in a competitive oncology field.

What This Grant Funds

Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) Idea Development Award (IDA) supports new ideas that represent innovative approaches to prostate cancer research and have the potential to make an important contribution to the PCRP mission. All applications must address one of the FY26 PCRP Overarching Challenges.

Distinctive Features:

·        New Investigator Category: In addition to established investigators, the FY26 PCRP Idea Development Award encourages research ideas from investigators in the early stages of their careers (i.e., within 10 years after completion of their terminal degree). Qualified new investigators must identify a collaborator(s) experienced in prostate cancer research.
