GRANTQUICK SUMMARYPlain-English Overview

Same as the international indemnity program above, but for DOMESTIC exhibitions — covering loans between US museums. If your museum is borrowing a Rembrandt from another American museum for a show, this provides federal insurance coverage instead of expensive commercial policies.

Who Should Apply

US museums, galleries, nonprofits, and educational institutions planning exhibitions that borrow works from other US collections. Same eligibility as international program.

Who Should NOT Apply

Same exclusions — for-profit entities, individual artists, foreign institutions.

Key Requirements (Plain English)

  • Must be planning a domestic loan exhibition
  • Must be a US nonprofit, government, or educational institution
  • This is insurance coverage, not grant money
  • Must apply before loans are shipped

💡 GrantQuick Tip

Apply early — indemnity must be approved before artworks leave the lending institution. If you're a mid-size museum that can't afford commercial fine art insurance for a major show, this is how the big museums do it. The application is primarily a facilities report (proving your museum meets security/climate standards to protect borrowed works).

Competitiveness: Low — service-based, not competitive in the traditional sense.
