GRANTQUICK SUMMARYPlain-English Overview

FEMA/NFA is giving small grants ($20K max, $1M total, 50 awards) to state fire training agencies for delivering National Fire Academy curriculum at the state level. This is essentially reimbursement for states that host NFA courses locally so firefighters don't have to travel to Emmitsburg, MD. Extremely small amounts, extremely high award count.

Who Should Apply

State fire training agencies/academies only. Must already have a cooperative relationship with the National Fire Academy for curriculum delivery.

Who Should NOT Apply

Individual fire departments, private training companies, or any non-state-level fire training entity.

Key Requirements (Plain English)

  • Must be a state fire training agency
  • Must deliver NFA curriculum at state level
  • Must cooperate with the National Fire Academy
  • Maximum $20K per award (very small)

💡 GrantQuick Tip

$20K is basically gas money for hosting a few training courses. All 50 state fire training systems are eligible and 50 awards are available — meaning literally every state that applies gets funded. If you're a state fire academy and you're NOT applying for this, you're leaving free money on the table. The application is likely a simple workplan showing which NFA courses you'll host.

Competitiveness: Virtually none — 50 awards for ~56 eligible state agencies. Apply and you'll almost certainly be funded.

What This Grant Funds

In accordance with the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974, the Superintendent of the National Fire Academy (NFA) delivers training in cooperation with the State fire service training agencies. This cooperation includes the State Fire Training Systems Grant (SFTSG) program providing grants to pay for: the direct delivery of government-funded coursed in the states; the distribution and sharing of Student Manuals, Instructor Guides, and other course materials; and funding to the states to help supplement and tailor their training delivery needs using NFA courses and programs.
