What This Grant Funds

The National Marine Fisheries Service Southeast Region (Fisheries Southeast Regional Office) is seeking proposals under the Gulf of Mexico NOAA Bay-Watershed Education and Training (Gulf B-WET) Program. The Gulf B-WET Program is an environmental education program that promotes locally relevant, experiential learning in the K-12 environment. Funded projects provide Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) for students, related professional development for teachers, and help to support regional education and environmental priorities in the Gulf of Mexico. This program addresses NOAA's goals to "Protect, Restore, and Manage the Use of Coastal and Ocean Resources Through an Ecosystem Approach to Management" and "Healthy Oceans".

Eligible applicants are K-12 public and independent schools and school systems, institutions of higher education, community-based and nonprofit organizations, state or local government agencies, interstate agencies, and Indian tribal governments in the Gulf States. Clarification on eligibility for FY12 Gulf of Mexico Bay-Watershed Education and Training Program (B-WET) Program Federal Funding Opportunity (Funding Opportunity Number: NOAA-NMFS-SE-2012-2003085): Eligible applicants are K-12 public and independent schools and school systems, institutions of higher education, community-based and nonprofit organizations, state or local government agencies, interstate agencies, and Indian tribal governments. Applicants may be physically located in any U.S. state; however, education projects and actions must take place in the Gulf States. Gulf States are defined as the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
