What This Grant Funds

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces two open competitions for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that support the rule of law and government responsiveness in Lebanon. Funding Opportunity I: Supporting Rule of Law and Government Responsiveness (1-2 Awards Expected) DRL's goal is to promote the rule of law and government accountability in Lebanon. DRL's objective is to build on commitments made by the Lebanese government in response to citizen advocacy by providing support to the legal framework surrounding the repeal of Article 522 and related penal codes. Article 522 of the Lebanese penal code allowed for halting the prosecution or suspending the conviction of a person who had committed rape, kidnapping, or statutory rape if he married the victim. Funding Opportunity II: Engaging Men and Boys in Strategies to Reduce Violence Against Women (1-2 Awards Expected) DRL's goal is to promote the rule of law and reduce violence against women in Lebanon. DRL's objective is to increase engagement of men and boys in programs designed to reduce violence against women. Successful proposals will address contextual challenges and relevance to Lebanon specifically as well as technical programmatic interventions utilizing best practices related to reducing violence against women.
