What This Grant Funds

The goal of this program is to reduce violence against civilians in at-risk areas of northern Nigeria by enhancing early warning and early response efforts. This program will pair commercially available satellite imagery analysis of village burning incidents with an on-the-ground network of trained early responders to prevent and mitigate predicted violence against civilians. In its first year, this program will focus on several target local government areas (LGAs) of four states in northern Nigeria that have experienced high civilian killings in recent years: Zamfara, Kaduna, Plateau, and Taraba States. Based on analysis of the satellite imagery and other risk factors, the geographic focus of this program may shift or expand in year two.
